Jack Hanley Gallery, San Francisco

The Jack Hanley Gallery’s reputation for fine art is formed by its consistent representation of avant-garde artists, including some who were instrumental in forming what has become known as the San Francisco Mission School of art. Jack Hanley owns another gallery in Tribeca, New York, but the earlier gallery is located in the heart of San Francisco’s Mission District (395 Valencia Street, to be exact). Labeled a superstar owner, Hanley, was described in a 2007 interview by Brian Andrews (for badatsports.com), as a gallerist who ‘runs with the big dogs.’ An exotic figure, Hanley is a handsome, large man possessing a wholly dramatic appearance that includes an enviously full head of long flowing white locks (tamed with a scunchi band at this year’s Armory Show).
