When we closed our gallery doors, it was with some trepidation that we wouldn't be able to honor the beautiful work of our colleagues in the same way.
I think, with Amorphous Dreams, we've put that fear to rest, and thank all the wonderful people who were instrumental in making this exhibition happen so beautifully. They are in chronological order: Susan Longini and Prema Murthy, Silvia Levenson, Warren Poole, Cynthia Plevin, Marvin Lipofsky, Jay Musler, Bella Feldman and JP Long, Dorothy Saxe, Clifford Rainey, John Green, John LaPrade, Michael Damm and Francesca Ginocchio.
Amorphous Dreams is on exhibition at Bekris Gallery from March 3 through March 29. The opening reception for the artists is Saturday, March 5 from 2 to 4.30. We hope you can stop by and spend a moment with us.

COLD+HOT 2010
Opening Reception 1 July Exhibition through 28 August
MICAËLA GALLERY presents COLD+HOT 2010, an annual showcase of the work of selected national and international glass sculptors in a single exhibition. Featured artists are Peter Bremers, Kathleen Elliot, Michael Janis, Michelle Knox, Weston Lambert, Carol Lawton, Silvia Levenson, JP Long, Susan Longini, Thomas Scoon, Carmen Spera, and Kristiina Uslar, who collectively demonstrate the expansive versatility of glass as a sculpture medium in terms of material, color, and form, alongside the video work of Tim Tate and photography of Mark Leibowitz.
The exhibition title, "COLD+HOT 2010," derives from the distinct processes used by glass artists for millennia - sculpting its form, or cold-working it while cold (actually, at room temperature), very hard and brittle; and working hot glass, shaping it while molten, using blowing and/or kiln forming techniques at temperatures ranging from 1700 to over 3000 degrees.
Rich in visual vernacular, "COLD+HOT 2010" introduces the work of new artists to Micaëla Gallery, Kathleen Elliot, Michael Janis, Tim Tate, and Mark Leibowitz.

JP Long, Jason Newsted
Micaela Gallery proudly presents, JASON NEWSTED and JP LONG, a two-persion exhibitions introducing paintings by Jason Newsted and sculpture by JP Long.An internationally recognized musician for his work with Metallica from 1986 to 2001, Newsted is a multi-awarded Grammy winner and 2009 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee. In 2005, Newsted found a new means of artistic expression with paint. With characteristic well known intensity, Newsted's turn toward the act of painting and new focus became a source of solace and strength. Using expressive paint and imagery, his work possesses visceral energy, visual harmony, and successfully combines color with composition. Drawing inspiration from his childhood family farm in Michigan, where he learned about beauty, life and death, Newsted's work is also formed by the powerful music of his rock star heritage.
Working with blown glass and steel, JP Long's work captures a feeling of sumptuous matter in motion. Influenced by modernist geometry, Long's work evokes organic imageries that reference naturally occurring events, such as energy, force, and magnetism. His sculpture, based on refined aesthetics, studied discipline, and meticulous skill, is owed to formal training in jewelry and metal art at CCA, as well as apprenticeships with prominent San Francisco Bay Area sculptors. Long's work is intimate, playful, and beautiful. His sculpture studies shape, volume and pressure, possesses extraordinary compositional design, and is imbued with abstract yet familiar notions of time and place.
This exhibition of work by two complementary artists presents subdued visual strengths that are powerful and pleasurable to view.
