Call for Help::Del Amigo High School needs art supplies

CALL FOR HELP

Del Amigo High School is a small continuation school in Danville, California (about 30 miles east of the San Francisco Bay Area) seeking help to purchase supplies to develop a glass fusing and kilnwork program for its single art class (see the link at http://www.dahs.srvusd.k12.ca.us/needs). The San Ramon Valley Unified School District is located in an affluent community populated by world class athletes, doctors and lawyers, as well as international fashion, film and music celebrities, national politicians, real estate developers and important art collectors, among others, that support its local performing and visual art programs and necessary supplies by collecting voluntary lab fees from school parents and the local PTA. Del Amigo High School, however, is an extremely small multi-cultural continuation high school with an economically-challenged and socially diverse student body that receives little, if any, parental support and no other community support.

Jeffrey Falick, the Del Amigo High School art program director and its sole art teacher, seeks to develop an art program that incorporates, among other mediums, glass for fusing and kiln-work. Mr. Falick needs $700 to assist with purchasing a kiln, and donations of basic glass fusing supplies, such as glass (sheets, canes, frit, powder).

As supporters of visual fine art programs, we believe that access to fine art benefits society as a whole. We believe that a diversified art program benefits the alternative learning styles and nature of the Del Amigo High School student body extremely well by transforming the art room into a place for self-reflection and evaluation - where it becomes a magical place of surprising achievements, where unexpected connections happen, and where friendships are formed.

The California State Budget severely cut educational funding across all demographics, and students in the continuation school programs were especially damaged by an already depleted public funding program.
