Good-bye, Hayes Valley! Hello, 49 Geary!

Dear Reader,

It's official...we're moving to 49 Geary.

We're very, very sad to leave our Hayes Valley home of 12 years, but we're (kind of, sort of) grown-up, and it's time to move away. Our new home is at 49 Geary, Suite 234, where we look forward to welcoming you to our Winter Salon 2008, opening November 15.

If you're on our emailing list, you'll have received our announcement, about the move and our moving sale (if you're not on our list, please sign up!). Yes, we're having a moving sale - from now through October 25, everything is reduced by 10%. It's the only time we have ever done a sale, and the only time we plan to have a sale. The sale is only for works currently available, from our current and previous exhibitions, and does not apply to works previously sold. The discount does not reflect any reduced artwork value and is solely for the purpose of reducing our relocation inventory.
We hope you appreciate it for what it is - an opportunity to acquire some pretty fabulous artwork at a really good price. Why are we doing a sale? The truth is (yes, we've been known to be uncommonly truthful) that we'd prefer to place them instead of waiting until we re-open at our new home to show them. And yes, we're incredibly busy packing up and getting ready for our move, our exhibition at SOFA Chicago, the Winter Salon (opens Nov. 15), and Bridge Art Fair, Miami Beach...whew, it's exhausting!

Peter Foucault

Peter Foucault will present his work to the Miami art world again this December at Bridge Art Fair, Miami Beach. Currently, Peter is enjoying the sweet taste of success at his show, External Influences, at the Richmond Art Center. Kenneth Baker, lauding Peter's style in a recent article on sfgate.com, wrote, "Foucault's procedure connects his work with the Surrealist lineage of automatism, the chance-enamored strategies of Fluxus and oddities on the fringes of art such as Harold Cohen's computer-generated drawings." External Influences, as described by the Richmond Art Center, explores the collaborative process between human and machine through the medium of drawing. The majority of works shown will be created on-site over the course of the exhibition, transforming the gallery into an active project space that will constantly generate new images, ideas and synchronicities. September 30 - October 31, 2008.

SOFA Chicago 2008

I've mentioned SOFA Chicago 2008 a few times this year, and yes, it's a big deal for us at the gallery. From November 6 through 9, Chicago's Navy Pier will be our home for this art fair (SOFA is the acronym for Sculpture, Object and Functional Art), that draws a massive gathering of glass sculptors, collectors and aficionados from all corners of the globe.

Contributing artists this year are Peter Bremers, Ned Cantrell, David Gilhooly, Taliaferro Jones, Weston Lambert, Lee Miltier, Stig Persson, David Ruth and James Walker.

Happenings...exhibitions, art fairs, news...

Stig Persson's opening reception was a wonderful success! For more images of the reception, please click the image below. Alan Bamberger took some beautiful images and comments that Stig's work, while possessing an industrial aspect, captures a strong aesthetic. Many thanks, also to Niels Agersnap for his opening and installation photography, now online, too.Other news, the gallery is a hive of activity lately, with kudos to Lorraine Peltz for her successful exhibition, 'Ahh... Decadence!' with the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Curated by Lisa Wainwright, Lorraine's work graced the catalog cover and her painting, 'Grape Punch, 2008' continued 'the chandelier motif as a symbol of splendor and privilege, decadence's handmaidens.' (Lisa Wainwright, Ahh... Decadence, page 14).

Ivan Mora is wrapping up a commission of his corset sculpture for one of our favorite clients in Baltimore, and Taliaferro Jones is in New York espousing her beautiful ideas to fledgling glass sculptors. David Ruth is polishing (literally) up his entries to SOFA Chicago 2008...and we're preparing for our first Winter Salon 2008 (replacing our former Salon d'Été, opening November 15) and Bridge Art Fair, Miami Beach.
